remove freewheel without tools
Rotafix is a solution to tightening a cog without tools. Is in that location an coordinating solution to removing a freewheel? Evidently it wouldn't piece of work to just spin the wheel in the other direction because the freewheel volition costless-wheel. Any homemade hacks? I practice not have a vice.

Sometimes it can be pretty hard with the tool...
I would think your all-time bet would be to remove the axle and find a chisel or other tool that will fit tightly in the grooves, and then twist it with a wrench.
If destructive is OK, I think that Sheldon Brown has an article on his site.

Freewheel tools are cheap. Less than ten bucks.
I've got 2 & 4 slot Suntours, Cantlet, Falcon and Shimano tools. I incertitude if I spent more 30 for the lot.
If you have a cheapo Falcon remover you can by and large also remove Shimano freewheels and Chinese, besides.
Or, take information technology to a shop and ask what they'll charge to spin information technology off. It might be free, peculiarly if you've cultivated a relationship with the LBS.

When I was a child 25 years ago and didn't have money for tools, this is what I would practice. Information technology's non-subversive too. Did one just a few months ago late night, stores were closed and didn't have the tool for this freewheel. I can exercise all of this in about 10 minutes. It will probably have y'all 30 minutes.
Kickoff you demand a hammer, a middle dial, a rag and a towel. Sometimes there is a plastic seal that needs to exist removed from the center, if there isn't one you volition ordinarily see a lockring with two or more dimples. Take your hammer and punch and unscrew it by going CLOCKWISE like you are tightening it. Information technology is usually non difficult. Once it is loose there will be thin spacer rings. Keep all of that prophylactic in a purse. Utilize a cloth or rag or paper towel and place it on top of the freewheel and plow the whole wheel around, over your towel, upside downward. All of the cogs volition come off in i or more pieces. ALL of your bearings will come loose and fall into your rag and some will autumn onto your towel. Tap it while upside down to capture all of the bearings.
Now all you have left is the body that actually gets screwed to the hub with a circular spring that hold the pawls on, unremarkably two or three. Grab 1 of the pawls and pull gently on it until the circular spring is loosened. Now yous have your pawls loose and spring. If information technology is a ii pawl freewheel, that is the easiest to remove. Utilize a LARGE adjustable wrench to loosen information technology counterclockwise merely in the normal way of unscrewing something. Information technology is tighter than you think. Yous can use a vise likewise. Just be conscientious not to impairment the edges. I have never damaged one. Reassembling the freewheel is easy. Clean your disassembled freewheel and dry out. Put the circumvolve jump on and put the pawl on afterwards by just sliding them under the spring. Use a dab of grease on the begetting surfaces of the cogset while upside down. Put your bearings on. With the cogset upside downward and bearings stuck with the grease, have the function that screws to the hub with the pawls, in information technology, in your hand and concur downwardly i of the pawls with your thumb, your eye finger in the heart where the threads are for threading into the hub and put information technology in at an angle and so that the pawl is in the cogset.
Now lower the other half in keeping your thumb on the pawl until it is gently put in place and so as non to knock out the bearings. Pickup the cogset, putting pressure on the back so information technology doesn't come apart, put your bearings in, spacers, and finally the lockring in, the whole time keeping the whole assembly in your hand, otherwise they volition separate and you will accept to start over. Three pawl takes a petty more than endeavour but not much more, also more intendance will be needed to remove the chief body from the hub because you wont have two opposing flat surfaces to clamp a wrench to. It's ready to reinstall but don't do information technology until you are sure you lot are ready for information technology unless you desire to practice this again.

When I was a kid 25 years ago and didn't have money for tools, this is what I would do. It's non-destructive besides. Did i merely a few months agone late dark, stores were airtight and didn't have the tool for this freewheel. I can practice all of this in well-nigh ten minutes. It volition probably accept you xxx minutes.
First you need a hammer, a heart dial, a rag and a towel. Sometimes there is a plastic seal that needs to be removed from the center, if there isn't i you will normally see a lockring with two or more dimples. Take your hammer and dial and unscrew it by going CLOCKWISE similar you are tightening it. Information technology is usually not difficult. Once it is loose in that location will be thin spacer rings. Go along all of that safe in a pocketbook. Employ a fabric or rag or paper towel and identify it on top of the freewheel and turn the whole wheel around, over your towel, upside down. All of the cogs will come up off in one or more pieces. ALL of your bearings volition come up loose and autumn into your rag and some will autumn onto your towel. Tap it while upside downwardly to capture all of the bearings.
Now all yous accept left is the body that actually gets screwed to the hub with a circular bound that hold the pawls on, usually ii or iii. Grab 1 of the pawls and pull gently on it until the circular spring is loosened. Now y'all take your pawls loose and jump. If it is a two pawl freewheel, that is the easiest to remove. Apply a LARGE adjustable wrench to loosen it counterclockwise just in the normal way of unscrewing something. It is tighter than you think. You can use a vise too. Just exist careful not to harm the edges. I have never damaged one. Reassembling the freewheel is like shooting fish in a barrel. Clean your disassembled freewheel and dry. Put the circle spring on and put the pawl on after by just sliding them under the spring. Use a dab of grease on the bearing surfaces of the cogset while upside down. Put your bearings on. With the cogset upside downwardly and bearings stuck with the grease, take the office that screws to the hub with the pawls, in it, in your hand and hold down i of the pawls with your pollex, your middle finger in the center where the threads are for threading into the hub and put it in at an angle then that the pawl is in the cogset.
Now lower the other one-half in keeping your thumb on the pawl until information technology is gently put in identify so as non to knock out the bearings. Pickup the cogset, putting pressure on the dorsum so it doesn't come apart, put your bearings in, spacers, and finally the lockring in, the whole fourth dimension keeping the whole assembly in your mitt, otherwise they will separate and you volition take to commencement over. 3 pawl takes a little more effort but not much more, as well more care volition be needed to remove the main body from the hub because you wont have two opposing apartment surfaces to clamp a wrench to. It's set to reinstall but don't do it until you are certain you are set for it unless you want to practise this again.

Ahh yes the meathod of a g bearings i remember information technology well ever then fun.
Tip if yous dont want to apply heavy grease in your free wheel or hub rebuild get a very potent speaker magnet. With a piddling luck the bearings magnetic and so is your hub. Identify hub/free wheel on the magnet and start laying the bearings in. Magnet holds them n nicely. This will permit you use the lube of your choice.
